Located in the heart of Sacramento’s Pocket Area, New China elevates the dining experience with authentic Cantonese and Hong Kong-style Chinese cuisine that transports your taste buds straight to the streets of Hong Kong. Whether you’re craving the zesty bite of their famous Orange Chicken or the delicate, savory notes in the Seafood Chow Mein, every dish here bursts with vibrant flavors and meticulous preparation.

The menu truly shines with standout specialties like Pepper Salted Shrimp and the comforting Seaweed Egg Flower Soup, offering both bold seasoning and soothing textures. Fans of classic Hong Kong comfort fare will delight in the Wonton Noodle Soup, meticulously crafted with fresh shrimp dumplings and tender noodles, or the richly flavored Beef Stew Lo Mein that balances hearty beef with savory sauce and soft noodles. For those looking to explore beyond the familiar, dishes such as the Lamb Stew with Bean Curd Sheet (支竹羊腩煲) provide an authentic taste of traditional Cantonese slow-cooked goodness.

New China’s thoughtful approach extends to their appetizer offerings, featuring crispy yet tender Fried Chicken Wings, the uniquely soft and sweet Pineapple Bun with Butter, and addictive bites like Salt & Pepper Squid and Salt & Pepper Tofu—which brings a lightly spicy, crunchy kick perfect to start your meal. For beverage lovers, their lineup of classic Hong Kong milk teas, including the famed Milk Tea Coffee (鴛鴦) and refreshing Iced Lemon Tea, perfectly complements the meal with a velvety, aromatic finish.

My friend told me that the New China Restaurant in the Pocket Area is under new management, and they have new menus and new chefs. We decided to have our dinner there last night. I found out they have a new sign at the front door, and the dining room is completely remodeled. The dining room is brand new and comfortable. They have new menus, including many Hong Kong-style yummy dishes and drinks. Some sections listed are coming soon. I can't wait to see more delicious items added to their menu in the near future. All the dishes we get are so good, and we have excellent services. New China is my favorite restaurant in Sacramento now!

A wonderful team dinner full of laughter, great food, and even better company Every dish from New China Restaurant was perfectly cooked — crispy, juicy, and full of authentic Cantonese flavor. Definitely the kind of dinner that reminds you why food brings people together. New China Restaurant, Sacramento, CA

We attended on an unassuming Saturday evening in December. We noticed that no music plays, but that was pleasant to me. Not much of the restaurant was filled up, as it seems takeout and food courier services are frequent. However, we were greeted quickly and friendlily. It took maybe 5 minutes to order and a proper few more to receive our food. However, we did receive it all at the same time, for which I grateful. The pork chow mein was appreciatively lacking in sugar; however, one member of the party remarked that it was a tad salty for them. We enjoyed a very solid and well-portioned mandarin chicken (with baby corn). Finally, we tried the shrimp-stuffed fried tofu, which I must recommend to anyone willing to try something. It is silk tofu (very soft) with a mince shrimp ball placed on top, all fried and coated in a light, savory sauce. There were 8 pieces in the portion, and I could have eaten them all myself. I will likely come back for this.

I highly recommend the sesame chicken, fried prawns, egg rolls, chicken fried rice, honey walnut shrimp, sweet & sour chicken, and the cream cheese ragoons. We always order some variation of these items & its always delicious! Very consistent restaurant, we eat here maybe once a week, my kids & hubby love it!! Customer service is always great as well. We were skeptical after the changed owners last year; we've been coming here 12 years or so. But I gotta tell ya, the menu stayed the same, but the food is BETTER than it was under previous owners. & I love that they finally gutted the place & remodeled the inside. We've eaten inside recently for the 1st time in about 5 years. Would definitely recommend to anyone that loves Chinese food!

The restaurant changed hands and has gotten a new face lift. The food has definitely improved. This is our local go for War Wonton Soup, House and Thai style chow mein & green beans with chicken. Everything is really tasty
